Yes, I am HIV+. I am not at AIDS status yet. I was diagnosed in 1997. I got tested because I was about to get married to a woman I planned to start a family with. The doctors say I was POZ (HIV+ slang term) probably 4 or 5 years before my diagnosis. I had open heart surgery done in 1989, maybe how I got it? The doctors cannot tell me how I got it. I find it hard to believe I got it from intercourse as I have had erection problems all me life due to heart problems (I still need a pace maker, but not covered by OHIP, plus I am afraid). I cannot complain though, as I still take no medications (even though doctors try) and I am still fairly healthy! Here's a 3D stereogram of me HERE (better get out your 3D glasses).
I now am disabled, but I still can work from home. I work for a couple hours, rest or lay down. Then get back to work when I feel up to it. I can accomplish about 8 hours of work a day quite easily this way, sometimes even 10+ hours! But if I have to travel on subway/public transit and deal with public, I can only work a couple hours before I want to go home and rest. So since I am able to work at home, I have made many web sites to keep myself busy. They cost a lot of my disability money, but I have to feel worth while and accomplish something, plus my web sites are tools to help other POZ people to meet others and find up to date information regarding medications and trial info. I also have set up chat rooms so people from rural areas may meet others around the world. For samples of my POZ support sites, go HERE. (I get this for open heart surgery I had done, HIV infection and needing a pace maker) who is trying to spread HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention to my fellow humans, while also giving free support and meeting services (chat, pen pals, etc) for those who already know they are infected (improving their quality of life). I have never accepted any donations from HIV positive individuals either! I also do not charge for my online services which are costly to run. I do it out the goodness of my heart (60+ hours a week work involved with my sites that I do as volunteer work). Even though I may not have money to: have a car, rent my own apartment, have my own phone line, have a full fridge, etc; I will make sure I have enough to keep my web server going! POZ helping POZ!
